NNMC Enters Next Phase of Development - Friday, June 06, 2008
The National Nanotechnology Manufacturing Center (NNMC) is announcing that Executive Director, Barbara Stafford has left the Center.

Ms. Stafford led NNMC through a critical phase of development based on her considerable experience as a successful software entrepreneur and insights from key engagements focused on technology-based economic development within the state of Georgia.

A key achievement during her tenure was the formation of the Nano Valley Consortium. The Nano Valley Consortium (NVC) is a member-based group comprised of commercial, academic, government agencies and organizations that work together to identify, develop, manage, and implement nanotechnology projects that benefit both military and commercial purposes. It operates within NNMC as its “agent-parent,” which manages and facilitates Consortium activities.

Diane Lewis, Chair of the NNMC Board of Directors noted “Barbara’s contribution to NNMC during this important growth phase has been invaluable. Initiatives instituted during Barbara’s tenure provide a solid foundation for executing projects that are key to achieving the mission and vision of NNMC.”

Tracy Becker, Operations Manager, has assumed leadership for all NNMC activities as the focus of the center and its members turns to execution of strategic projects. Important milestones in the process are the Nano Valley Consortium Annual Meeting to be held August 8 in Atlanta and a NanoCommercialization Symposium In Savannah, GA scheduled for September 29 –October 1.

The Nanomanufacturing &
Dual-use Commercialization Conference

November 3, 4 & 5 , 2008
Savannah Marriott Riverfront, Savannah, Georgia

The Key Note speaker for our fall conference will be Cynthia E. Gonsalves. She will set the theme for the “Nanomanufacturing & Dual Use Commercialization Conference” to be held November 3, 4 & 5, 2008 at the Riverfront Marriott Hotel in Savannah Georgia.

Ms. Gonsalves is scheduled to speak November 4th on the importance and future of the Department of Defense Technology Transition program. A main point of the presentation is how that program relates to the manufacturing infrastructure of our country. Promoting a sustainable nanomanufacturing infrastructure is the primary goal of NNMC.

Mrs. Gonsalves is the Acting Director of the Office of Technology Transition. In this position, she has oversight of the Manufacturing Technology Program and Defense Production Act Title III Program; she is also the Associate Director for Technology Transfer and Transition. As Associate Director, she has oversight responsibility for the DOD Technology Transfer Program, the Technology Transition Initiative, and the North American Technology and Industrial Base Organization (NATIBO). She provides guidance and develops plans to implement and improve the DOD technology transfer and transition programs to ensure coherent, although decentralized programs. She has developed DOD-wide implementation policy and technology transfer and intellectual property information systems. (read more on Ms Gonsalves Here

Ms. Gonsalves’ strategic position and exceptional experience makes her presentation of vital importance to everyone in the dual use commercialization arena. In the frame work of the NNMC conference her message is augmented to reflect on the emerging nanomanufacturing industry’s concerns and goals.

The “Nanomanufacturing & Dual Use Commercialization Conference” is targeted at industry and government advanced technology officers who are either experiencing or can contribute to solving the gaps and road blocks to nanocommercialization. Attendees range from the innovators and Tech Transfer officers into the materials and equipment suppliers and through to the marketing organizations and potential end users.
